The COVID pandemic has forced changes in the plans and activities of everyone.
Yet one great IiMER supporter has not changed. One person has continued to pursue the goal of helping people with ME via a series of selfless acts based on a
challenge that he set himself -
performing not one
unselfish act - but a whole series of them, across several years,
and across the EU continent - and continuing despite the problems with the pandemic.
Mike Harley – is running 28 EU
marathons to support the charity in raising awareness
and developing
a UK/European Centre of Excellence for ME.
Apart from raising funds and enormous awareness of ME Mike has
also been able to look at issues in each European country.
His blog not only details his marathon events but also his discussions
with ME patients in the country in which he is running.
Our thanks to Mike seem totally inadequate for his efforts in raising funds and awareness.
Many may not realise that Mike is funding all of this himself. He has refused to accept funds from the charity in any way.
And now, with a young child, his and his family's sacrifices are all the more staggering.
Despite being severely hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic Mike has managed to run in the few marathons that were allowed to take place - and when
marathons are cancelled it is Mike who faces losing his own money on travel costs.
And miraculously he is now nearing the end of this unique venture.
